BGE Patio String Lights

It is a little early yet for snowflakes to be in the air around my house, but there is no shortage of Big Green Eggs in the air. I know, I know: Not one of you probably has a clue what I'm talking about. Let me put it in plain English: I just got done installing the BGE string lights that were in the swag bag for this year's EGGtoberfest. I installed them on my grill gazebo, learned a few things and found a neat gizmo along the way. Adjustable Rig-Seeing Double

This blog entry will be about the addition of my second Adjustable Rig to my Eggcessories. It is intended to help support my recently purchased third Egg dedicated to baking tasks. It was around this time last year that I had bought my first Adjustable Rig and I was still unsure how much I would actually use it. I could see great potential in it, but I have no idea how essential it would become to my day-to-day grilling. At first I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. EGGtoberfest XVII - Mothership

This year I plan to handle my blog entries about my visit to EGGtoberfest 2014 differently than I did for EGGtoberfest 2013. Last year I wrote 2 VERY long entries that took me until some time in December to get out. This year I will break the event down into more manageable bite sized chunks. This means I will be able to get some blogs up in a more timely manner and while the impressions are still fresh in my head. Also folks can pick and choose which of the shorter entries interest them and read just those. This first entry will cover my visit to the BGE Company Store at the headquarters in Tucker, GA.

High in the Dome

I used my new third Egg (dedicated to baking), to make another batch of scones baked high in the dome. Like the first batch, this round was as close to technically perfect as a cook is going to get. I am very pleased to say the least. So far cooking high in the dome has resulted in a BETTER more evenly baked, more predictable end product than I get with my indoor oven. AR Raised Indirect Baking - First Attempt

I picked up and assembled my 3rd BGE Sunday. My plan is to use it s a dedicated baking Egg that will never have wood used in it other than lump charcoal. I wanted to do something a bit different and a bit special in it. I decided on TENDER PEACH SCONES since peaches were in peak season and available fresh from farm stands all around here. I also took the opportunity to see how raised indirect baking, high in the dome of the Egg worked. This marks my first attempt baking high in the dome and this blog describes the results. High on the Dog - Pt. 2

This blog entry is a follow up to an entry earlier this summer where I tried making some hot dogs raised direct using the Adjustable Rig. While successful in general, I had some setup and cooking issues to deal with. I tried again, a little while afterwards, and had better luck. I think I am getting close to a new Go-To set up for cooking hotdogs. High on the Dog

The title refers to my first attempt at cooking hot dogs direct, but up in the dome using the Adjustable Rig (AR). Earlier the same day I was finishing my last blog entry: GETTING TO KNOW THE ADJUSTABLE RIG, and I mentioned that learning about grilling up in the dome was something I hoped to start doing soon. Several events conspired to make it happen later the same day. The results weren’t “textbook perfect”, but I would say the issue was probably user error. Getting to Know the Adjustable Rig

A few months ago I wrote a blog entry about my initial impressions of the Adjustable Rig (AR) for the Large Big Green Egg (and other similar sized Kamado grills). The AR is a modular shelf system for the BGE, which gives you more grilling real estate and more flexibility. It is made by the Ceramic Grill Store. I will supply links to both the Ceramic Grill Store and my initial blog about the AR at the bottom of this blog. This blog will describe my impressions of the AR after using it for about four months. I still have quite a bit to learn, but I already have come to rely on the AR for well over half of my cooks. If I have both of my Big Green Eggs in use, one of them will have the AR on it 99 times out of 100.
