EGGtoberfest XVII - Swag Bag
10/27/14 - 11:14 Filed in: BGE | Big Green Egg | BBQ Festival
For some folks the EGGtoberfest t-shirt and the swag bag are one of the highlights of Eggtoberfest every year. For two years in a row I have picked up items that I always liked in their catalogue, but wasn’t willing to spend my money on. IT is like the people choosing what to put in the swag bag each year knew my guilty pleasures. This blog entry will show pictures of and/or describe the contents of this years swag bag.
This years t-shirt caused a bit of discussion on the Egghead forums due to the placement of the graphics. Previous shirts had a small logo on the front on the right side where a pocket would go on a dress shirt. The back contained a larger version of the logo. This is typical of most 2 sided t-shirts you are used to seeing. This years shirt moved the large logo to the front at chest level and the small logo to the center of the back at the shoulder blade level. Many folks were speculating whether this wasn’t some sort of mistake. Honestly it would be hard to believe a sample or two weren’t printed prior to doing the whole run. Several folks said they had gotten recent t-shirts from other events and they were this same style too. I don’t have a preference for either design, I like them both. Last years shirt was a tan, this years is black. Once again I don’t have a preference. A tan t-shirt is going to be cooler in the summer than a black one. But a tan shirt will show charcoal dust or most other stains more so than a black one. I like both shirts.

Last year I got a BGE wall mounted bottle opener in the swag bag. I’d always looked fondly at that item in the catalogue, but not enough to spend my money on it. This year they gave a 10 light string of lights where the lights were shaped like a BGE. There also was a glass candle holder shaped like a BGE containing a citronella candle in it. Both of these were items I liked, but wasn’t going to spend my money on. Note to the folks planning next years bag: “I really like the BGE shaped salt and peeper shakers and the corn (cob) holders. I wouldn’t turn my nose up at the BGE shaped table cloth weights.”
Just as I said last year: Not a bad haul at all!! The origins of the event were a way for the company to thank its hundreds of users. I’m guessing the T-Shirt would cost around $15.00, I’ve seen the lights retailing for between $19.99 to $29.99 and the citronella candle retails for #12.99. Throw in a few bucks for the Swag Bag and add in the food, 5 drink coupons, and classes, $40 for a Tasters ticket is not unreasonable at all. I am not silly enough to think the BGE Company is taking a loss on this, but I am guessing they are probably breaking even or turning a slight profit. Or perhapss some of the monies from some of their corporate sponsors cover some of these costs. Either way when you factor in all of the positive PR and good will they get out of this event I am sure it is a Win for everyone.
