MOTIVATION:

This years blog will be similar but different than the other years. This year I was put on a very low sodium diet, low calorie, low alcohol diet and I spent the second half of the year learning the ropes. As I have mentioned elsewhere: I have no plans to turn this site or this blog into healthy living website where I drone on endlessly about my new lifestyle. My only word on eating healthier is you may want to look at your own dietary habits and take some steps to eat a little better. By eating a little healthier you may avoid getting sentenced to a low sodium diet for the rest of your life as I was. My wish and intent is to try to keep making some of my old favorites, just in a low sodium version. I will also be exploring new types of grilled food to help keep my sodium down. I still plan to write on general grilling and smoking topics just as before. But I also can’t completely From time to time I may add some blog entries on discoveries I have made that have helped me still enjoy some of my favorites in a low sodium version. Honestly I am just starting down this road so even I am not sure exactly what I will be Grilling’ and Smoking’ this year. I hope some of you come along and enjoy the ride with me.

MOTIVATION-2016:

The fact I have been doing this for eleven years now amazes me. I didn’t think I would make it beyond a year or so. But I never imagined some of the direction this hobby would take me.

Last year marked a bit of a change. I have the equipment I need, so now I have changed from improving my equipment to improving my process. I have begun focussing more on larger multi-item cooks and making more ambitious things on my Eggs. This will mark the first time where I won’t be looking to acquire more gear and will be focussing almost exclusively on making more and better things with this gear. I will be very interested myself to see where I am at thsi time next year. Whatever happens I will share what I have learned here.

MOTIVATION-2015:

The Ninth year of this blog marks Nine more years than I originally expected it to last. I am doing and learning more each year. As a result I am certainly not running out of things to write about. If anything the opposite is true.

This is my second year grilling, smoking and baking on Big Green Eggs eggclusively. This past September I added a third Large Big Green Egg to my grilling arsenal. This Egg is dedicated exclusively to baking related tasks. Just like last year, most of my blog entries will in some manner reflect the use of the Big Green Egg. But there will still be some general interest topics, plus some of the topics that involve cooking things on the BGE will apply to other grills too. Most of what I write about the Big Green Egg would apply to other ceramic Kamado cookers like the Primo, Kamado Joe etc. Another example is many of the recipes I've made come from the Virtual Weber Bullet website and I've never owned one of those grills. Many other recipes come from America’s Test Kitchens and King Arthur Flour and weren’t originally written for cooking on a grill at all. This is a long way of saying most recipes aren't exclusive to one type of grill. Additionally there will certainly be lots of things for me to learn and (write about here) involving the use of the Big Green Egg and its Eggcessories. I hope everyone reading this blog can relate to and enjoy some of the content here. I hope that it may help you in your own grilling or smoking efforts. I don't write this to pontificate about my life. I got a lot of help from message boards and blogs when I was getting started. My motivation for this blog is it’s my way of paying back for the help I received.

Year Nine for this blog will reflect some big changes that happened in 2013. The biggest change was 2013 marked the first year since I have been doing this site that I only used one type of grill for everything. My smoker was retired about a year ago and while I still have my gas grill, I didn't use it even once last year. So as you may imagine, most of my blog entries will in some manner reflect the use of the Big Green Egg. But there will still be some general interest topics, plus some of the topics that involve cooking things on the BGE will apply to other grills too. Many of the recipes I've made come from the Virtual Weber Bullet website and I've never owned one of those grills. So most recipes aren't exclusive to one type of grill. I have a feeling this year will mark a big change in the content of this blog. The change actually started in August of last year, when I bought my Large Big Green Egg. Since then I have been using it 99 percent of the time. As a result my blog entries are focussed somewhat on BGE related topics. I will still try to write on general interest subjects too. But with the BGE taking over all grilling, smoking and baking duties for me - it is inevitable it will be featured more. But I am also hoping there will be plenty of topics which will have useful information for anyone with an interest in this hobby.

MOTIVATION-2012:

In 2006 when I decided to include a blog on my site, I was worried about being able to find things to write about. This fear has proven to be unfounded. Last year was my most prolific year ever. So it wasn't even up for consideration whether I would carry on with this for a sixth year. There is always more to learn which means there is always more to write about and share here. When I first started this blog in 2006, it was more of an experiment than something I thought I’d stick with for 5 years. After all I would run out of things to say. Evidently not, because 2010’s blog had 54 entries the most ever. So until I run of of things to say or writing this becomes a chore, I will keep at this blog.
