Frito’s Ole Burger
Diced onion, Cheese Whiz, refried beans, salt & pepper were for the burgers & the butter was for the toasted buns
The buns are buttered & the burgers were seasoned with the salt & pepper just before going out to the grill
The burgers were grilled & the buns were toasted using direct medium-high heat
The burgers & rolls are back inside where some assembly is required
First the top and bottom buns all receive Cheese Whiz & the bottom bun receives the diced onions
The burgers are topped with refried beans & then a layer of Frito’s corn chips. I felt like a little kid at this point
The Frito Ole Burgers are assembled and I served them with what else? Frito’s of course
The burgers were a prefect medium rare & surprisingly, you could taste all of the various ingredients in equal measure

This burger from Fred Thompson’s Barbecue Nation definitely felt like a guilty pleasure. I’ve gotten to know some of the people who work at my supermarket and they have often shown me how to find the best meat or produce. I was afraid I’d lose credibility points if I had to ask them where the Cheese Whiz was. Besides Cheese Whiz, this burger also used diced onion and refried beans to give it flavor. The end result was a bit surprising to me as there was an interesting and very good balance of flavor. No one item was dominant, you could taste every ingredient in equal measure. The recipe made for a good change of pace.
