I had great expectations for this desert and I must admit the end results were decidedly a mixed bag. Three people who tried it really liked it and three people, including myself, were not so crazy about it. I also served APPLE-SPICE CAKE as a dessert this day and I was glad I had it. Interestingly enough, the people who didn't like this dessert REALLY liked the spice cake. The people who liked this dessert preferred it by a wide margin over the Apple-Spice Cake. There was quite a bit of sugar in this recipe, but it still remained more tart than sweet. But what flavor there was was less pronounced than I expected bordering on almost bland. The other thing I was not happy about this I could detect some smoke flavor from the charcoal. I let the grill warm up an extra long time but it didn't seem to help. I am a bit mystified about this which I've had happened several times lately. My baking Egg has never had any word chunks in it ever, just lump charcoal. The Wicked Good charcoal I use is usually very smoke neutral. Where this recipe had such polarizing results I am not sure what to say. If you like cranberries, Give this recipe a try. But perhaps do a dry run ahead of time and tested on your potential guests/“vicims” first.
