BEST PIZZA - 1 of 6 Unranked-Alphabetical Order:
PHOTO ENTRY NAME:GRILLED APPLE PIZZA SOURCE:Food Network website DATE FIRST COOKED: February 18, 2008
I stumbled across this unique pizza recipe when looking for a totally different type of recipe. This nontraditional pizza used apple butter in place of tomato sauce. For toppings it was a bit like a Hawaiian pizza with slices of apple in instead of the pineapple, plus, ham, onions and strips of cheese. This pizza was unlike any I've ever eaten. It had a sweetness to it that made me think of it as a "pizza as dessert". If you're looking for a great change of pace pizza, this is it.

PHOTO ENTRY NAME:CPK BARBECUE CHICKEN PIZZA SOURCE:pioneerwoman.com website DATE FIRST COOKED: January 5, 2013
I've had this pizza at California Pizza Kitchens and loved it. This recipe reverse engineered the restaurant classic so you could make it at home. I've found this pizza can be a love or hate thing for people. Some people are thrown off by the idea of using barbecue sauce instead of tomato sauce. To me it makes perfect sense and I love this Pizza as shown by my including it on this list.

PHOTO ENTRY NAME:GRILLED BREAKFAST PIZZA SOURCE:Phantom Gourmet TV show DATE FIRST COOKED: February 14, 2011
This fun Pizza is basically a combination of a traditional cheese pizza and a bacon and egg breakfast. The pizza portion is cooked first almost to completion. Then the perimeter of the pizza plus the four quadrants you will end up slicing are lined with bacon. The bacon serves as a "fence" to contain the eggs within each quadrant. My first bite of this pizza totally threw me because the combination of egg and tomato sauce did not taste like what I had expected it to. It took me a few more bites, but I was really liking it by the end of my first slice. Some people eat leftover pizza for breakfast, here is a pizza that gives you an excuse to have whole freshly made pizza for breakfast.
The Big Green Egg company got together with the King Arthur Flour Company to reverse engineer a Pizzeria Uno style pizza. KAF was responsible for the crust, which made my list for baked goods favorites. Surprisingly the sauce was very simple to make and was a dead ringer for the original. What I loved about this recipe is I found out I could turn out of pizza is good or better than what I got it Pizzeria Uno. And if a person trying it didn't know where it came from I'm sure they would guess Pizzeria Uno and not from my grill..
BEST PIZZA - 5 of 6Unranked-Alphabetical Order:
PHOTO ENTRY NAME:ST. LOUIS PIZZA SOURCE:America's Test Kitchens Home Town Favorite DATE FIRST COOKED: March 27, 2014
This unique thin crust pizza from the St. Louis area was a real change of pace. It used a different type of crust recipe and a simple but different sauce recipe. The cheese used on it is available only in the St. Louis area, But the recipe gave you a blend of cheeses to simulate the original. On paper this looks like a rather simple pizza, but it is truly excellent with flavor far more complex than I ever imagined looking at the ingredient list.

PHOTO ENTRY NAME:TRATTORIAN PIZZA SOURCE:Grilled Piazza & Piadinas DATE FIRST COOKED: April 23, 2010
This Is a pizza recipe that the cookbook author serves in his own pizzeria. It features a wonderful thick chunky spicy tomato sauce. For toppings it uses: pepperoni, hot sausage and bacon, plus green peppers and onions for the veggies. The cheese is a blend of mozzarella and parmesan. This pizza was a great blend of sweet and hot toppings coming together to give you a perfect flavor.
Motivation:
People are always asking me what my favorite recipes are. This section had it's origins in a seven part BLOG entry I wrote in 2011 called A Few of My Favorite Things. I have made many great dishes since then and also started making other types of foods such as Stir Fries. This section needed to be updated and expanded to stay current or be dropped. I chose the later and you have the results of my reworking the section in the Fall of 2014
Pizza & Calzones Info:
The PIZZA & CALZONESsection of the site has a wide variety of different types and style of pizzas. It is hard to rank them because of this variety, so I am going to feature 6 of the best.
